I like how mine sound, but many people just prefer to get an amp and upgrade the front speakers.... I got the brackets off ebay and the fitment and everything is good...

other than the obvious audiophile issues, it all boils down to what you listen to most of the time and if you listen to mp3's most of the time

let us know your listening habbits and your budget for the system, then it is easier for us to give you a definite answer

I will be running Alpine Type-Rs... We'll see how those are.

I love the type'rs. I have them in the doors and the headrests with PDX amps. I had more expensive speakers that didn't hold up to moisture adn were of lower quality.

Let's be honest here:

By the time you've bought two sets of decent speakers (and a 4-chan amp), you've spent what - $300-400 or so?

For that same price you could easily afford a single set of higher quality door speakers that negate the need for "rear fill"

The answer is no, they are not any good. They are better than nothing but the return on investment is not worth it. You'll end up running them at 5-10% of the volume of the door speakers and you can't get any spatial separation since they're so close to your head. You can probably get bigger sound from relocating your tweeters than you'll get with rear speakers in the S.

but if he doesn't listen to hi resolution recordings all the time, doesn't care about staging, and just want to boost volume, it is still doable.

we can't force everyone to be an audiophile, it is their life and choice which we should all respect

So are we talking about right behind the headrest or on the roll hoops ??
I don't see why anyone would put speakers on the headrest, its right next to your ears ???
I have a nice set of comps in the door and a sub in the trunk(with 2 amps) and I can tell you that the sound is great no matter how fast I'm driving on the highway.
Its loud enough that the car next to me at the stop light can hear my system.
I'm still intrigue in getting the system louder so I'm going to install a set of 5.25" speaker behind door in the removable panels just to see how it sounds.
