Oh, just so you guys know, I'm not going to be listening to it at max all the time. I plan on competiting with this setup, and that's when I plan on using the maximum power.

I know that it'd be a one-way trip to deafdom, and I don't want that.

And when you refer to mechanical problems with the convertible top, can you elaborate more?

I am also new and know very little about car audio ...but I am learning thanks to guys like you in the electronics forums.
I too am installing a new system..I also was under the apparently wrong assumption that you had to closely match amp output RMS to the RMS watts that the speaker could handle. I also already purchased my amps before finding this out. I have the RF 501s 2 channel amp (125W X 2 into 4 ohms) for my CDT HD62EF (120W RMS)front component speakers and RF 501bd 1 channel amp (500 X 1 into 2 ohms) for my e8a sub (4 ohm DVC's) (450W RMS)
I have more amp than my speakers are rated for but as long as I don't crank it to the max I should be ok right? Also what do you guys think of the Rockford Fosgate amps? I am also installing a 1 farad cap to let the cap take the hits not the battery and alternator/voltage regulator. I guess if I cranked it all the way I would be pulling 750Watts too. Owwww my EARS!!!

Cap won't help as it either the alternator or the battery that needs to charge/recharge the cap.

if you're planning to compete, you may also want to investigate power classes... i have no clue if you've competed before (i haven't), but i have often heard that there are various classes based upon power ratings... if you get too much juice going, you'll get yourself in the unlimited class or at the very bottom of a high power class, and you may not like that location...
I've competed locally before, but no big sanctioned tournament. I'm aware of power classes, haven't really done a lot of research in it.

[QUOTE]well, i'm guessing those are Canadian dollars, right? so, that's what?? $500? $600? USD?

btw -- the Lrx set would probably cost you almost 1/2 the Vrx line... 65 Wrms x 4 and 650 Wrms x 1. ~910 Wrms.

and i did a lot of checking and couldn't really find a super cheap yellow top locally. i found some online, but shipping killed the savings. i bought one last night for $125 locally... not great, but...

i plan to install it tonight or tomorrow, as my stock battery can't take more than about 5 minutes of stereo work before she's below 10.5 volts.
