So hen you turn the car off and take the key out, the dome lights turn on. But after a few seconds they turn off. and then when you open either door, they do nothing.

Does anyone know of the most likely problem. Or just anywhere to a good start. I really dont want to just start takin stuff off and going threw wires and wires.

I replaced the door button the little accordion style switch sticking out below the door latch

 

did both doors stop illuminating the dome light at the same time?

 

No, only the drivers side stoped. The passenger side illuminates it when it is open. When when you open the drivers side door the dome light flashes for a spilt second, it also flashes when you close the door.

I am going to pull the switch off the passenger side and see if it works for the drivers side.

and if that dosnt work i will take the dome light assembly out and see if it is faulty some how.

I don't see the dome light being faulty if it works with the passenger side door. The accordion switch in the door is most likely the prob. Its probably loose or not making full contact w/ the chassis when the door is open.
