Default Odometers

I am about to buy a S2000, my first, in Portugal. So I am a bit scared! The odometer is digital can this be fixed by an unscupulous vendor to read less than actual, like the old mechanical type?

It is my understanding that an instrument cluster from a wrecked S2000 with less mileage can be put in place and show the mileage of the other car. So yes, if a low mileage instrument cluster can be found, this is how it can be done.

However, I understand it is also possible to check this mileage against that stored in the ECU to check for discrepancies. I cannot be sure about this, though.

Thanks for the info, I feel more confident now. It is highly unlikely that a seller would even find a scrapped car as there are not many on the road here in Portugal. I can only find about six for sale in the whole country.
