I am trying to figure out when and where the speakers are placed.

On the 00-01, there were only 2 fullrange 6.5 speakers mounted on the door. Starting with the 02, they added 2 tweeters on the door panel. What year did the speakers behind the seat come in, or was that somebody's mod. I remember seeing a read interior with 5.25 speakers mounter behind the seat at about the waist level.

I am not looking forward to the s-pods option.

Just checked on Honda's site, current models have an additional 4 speakers on the rollbar if you order the XM package. Not sure why you need XM for those speakers to work.

Speakers behind the seats are someone's mod. Starting in 06 I believe all s2ks sold have the tweets in the roll bar.

 

right, 06+ added the rollbar speakers. they are actually more than just tweeters, they are small diameter "full-range" speakers, akin to those in some computer speaker products. they obviously won't play low frequencies, but do cover a good portion of vocal and primary instrument range.
