Default OEM stereo from junkyard, whats the code?!

I just found a great oem head unit at a local junkyard and I'm putting it in, but I got a "CODE" on the screen. I punched in the one that I saw in my owners manual, but it was a no-go. Can I get the code if I have the VIN? Or better yet, can I didable the code function?
Thanks,
Greg

There should be a label on the radio with the serial number printed on. Call your Honda dealer and provide them with that number and they should be able to get you the code. There is also another trick to get the code by pressing specific buttons on the radio in a sequence, but I'm not certain about that procedure.

i thought the point of the code was a deterrent from stealing the s2000 radio. if it was that easy, i dont see why there is a code in the first place.

^This. I had to re-enter the code into my stock stereo when I unplugged it. The agent at Honda needs the VIN, the serial number under the head unit, your vehicle registration information and personal info. I'm guessing they verify all this information to make sure it has not been stolen.

I would think that you could probably try going to a Honda dealer you may know and they can vouch for you?

Potentially if the car that said radio is from has been totalled you could probably ask them to cross check that info

It does seem a bit contradicting, but anytime I have called for a code, they have provided me with one.

That's because no one would steal the OEM radio. Not even a crackhead.
