I received and installed my Lucid panels and speakers last night.

And I am a VERY happy customer.

Lucid supplies a great package - neat cut panels with speakers installed, plug and play harness (including for UK), detailed high quality colour instructions.

And it sounds GREAT.

I didnt want to mod my doors or do anything else too outrageous and this solution suits me fine.

For anyone who thinks it might not sound good, I say go and listen. Anyone in the UK who wants to see and listen to my install is more than welcome to come by my house.

So there is already speaker wire in the car to the rear? What guage wire is it? Does it need to be upgraded? Will the stock head unit put out enough power to run both sets of speakers, or does this setup require amplification?

thanks

There isnt speaker wire to the rear but Lucid supplies it and gives instructions for the cable runs.

The UK stock headunit is a four channel unit and does put out enough power IMO so no amp required.

I believe the US head unit does not put out as much power but I am sure it would be adequate.

Pete,

Sorry - got a bit caught up in Grand Theft Auto!

Just tested and there was marginal difference even with the seats pushed back which I am surprised at - I guess however far back they are, the seats will never completely cover the speaker so I do think you would benefit from them.

Im not sure whether they stop the seat going any further back tho because they do stick out 2cm - Ian? Lucid?

It seems that the customer satisfaction is overwhelmingly good; so who's to say they're being overcharged? Seems like the people with the negative comments have an agenda IMO.

Hi Pete

I am just over 6' and have the seat on the last notch of the floor rails (any further and it rests against the rear panel and squeaks as you say) and then the seat back tiped as far back as possible, again without touching. Because of the seat angle relative to the rear panels I guess there is beween1/2" and 1" clearance of the speakers

I have installed Polk components (I did the install myself, but with plenty of (freely given) advice from Lucid amongst others) in the rear panel. Even with the seat way back the sound is clear and loud - not at all muffled as has been incorrectly suggested by others in this thread. I was worried about loosing the high frequencies with this behind seat location, so I experimented with high tweeter positions - on the roll bars etc. - I found the sound too 'bright' for my tastes - the tweeters perform just fine for me mounted in the rear panels, tucked unobtrousivly away behind the seats. And as shaner has kindly reminded us, if I wish to return to stock it will only cost $17.08

It is a simple, modestly priced mod which makes the radio / cd / tape easier to listen to in what is, after all, a non-ideal environment. If in any doubt (I was) I am sure there will be a mod'd car at a meet soon - just have a listen and make up your own mind.

I bought some Sony 4" speakers for my rear speaker install then changed my mind and took them back.....

and bought Sony 4" 2 ways

Hopefully I'll get a chance to install these and my new Fiamm horns and clear side markers this weekend.

Is there a template available for cutting the holes in the panels? What's the hole saw size for 4" speakers?

Does anybody know if BostonAcoustics Pro Series 4.5 speakers will fit back there? I'd like to use those to match my fronts. Hopefully in the next few days I'll have time to run down to a stereo shop and try to convince them open up a pair so I can see if they'll fit.
