Default PAC products

Does anyone know of any site that would sell to overseas? I need an IR repeater and PAC offers suvh a product.

Alternative question: How hard is it to build an IR repeater? Would a fiber optic cable do?

I believe PAC uses an IR receiver and an IR LED. Can't really help you on the implemenation.

If you get me the product number I can get it for you. Costs will be a bit in shipping alone. I do know that a small package shipped USPS is only like 12 bucks. Though it can not be tracked or insured. UPS is up there! If your really desperate for it I can get it to ya.

Luis,

Send an email directly to PAC, they should be able to give you a (semi-)local supplier (at least someone already overseas). Their website doesn't list many suppliers at all, but there are more on their internal lists if you ask.

As far as the fiber optic cable goes, I suppose that depends on how you're using it. If you want it to pick up the signal from your remote being waved through the air, find another solution. But if all you want is to place the transmitter LED against the fiber on one end and the receiver LED against the other end of the fiber, this should work.
Here's a tip...for the side of the fiber that the transmitting LED is butted up against, quickly run the end of the fiber into a lighter or match. This will mushroom the fiber's end and make it more receptive to a wider angle of incoming signals (actually, I use variations on this technique in reverse to make bulb lights, spotlights, and a few other items). the smaller the mushroom, the tighter the angle of reception.

Thank you for the answers.

I bought a fibre cable, and tried it out at home. As MacGyver predicted it works perfectly as long as the emitter is close to one end of the fibre.

This is the simplest solution for me as it requires no electricals.
