Default Passport direct hardwire hookup... I need advice.

I'm not an electronic wiz by any means, but I installed my Passport 8500 directly with a regular telephone wire to the light housing inbetween the visors (map lights). It works perfectly, I got the idea from others on the board... What I was wondering is it would provide the approriate voltage to the radar detector for it to function properly...

Thanks guys

I know.. It saved me the $10 for the simple wire or the $25 with the mute button...
