Please assist with choosing speakers
Hi Guys,
I'm looking at purchasing speakers for my 02 s2000 at around the $400 mark.
I currently have an aftermarket head unit installed - Pioneer MVH-P8200 and i'm considering the two speakers specified in the topic description.
I find the stock speakers in the 02 had a massive improvement with the installation of the HU and am fairly satisfied when i'm cruising around town...but i find it lacks some power when i pump up the volume for highway cruising.
I'm looking for speakers which focus on clarity, and sound crisp/clear. I wish for it to have fairly good bass. Would this be achievable without an AMP? Without an AMP, would the new speakers be a massive improvement over the stock speakers?
If you have other speaker recommendations, please feel free to comment.
Your feedback will be very appreciated.
Many thanks,
Daniel

Focal all day, but you wont get there potiental out of either brand with out a good amp, and dont expect a 6.5 speaker to produce a sound it is not intended to, they are midrange speakers, yes they can play lower fq, but not there sole design, a sub is a must if looking for a quality sound.
boston acoustic is getting out of the car audio market, and as a result, their high end speakers are going for very marked-down prices right now. i'm thinking of picking up a set myself. for $400, you can snag a set of boston componenets that until recently were much more expensive.
i intended to go with focals, but the boston deals are too good to pass up. my last car ran focal polyglass 165 v30 components... amazing stuff.
definitely power with an amp. at the $400 mark, you'll be looking to buy components that operate at 70+ watts rms.. they won't sound great if they're significantly underpowered. if you want to run off the headunit with no amp, then you might as well buy less expensive speakers.
check pacificstereo.com for the Boston Acoustics Pro60SE 6.5 inch components. List price is $600, but pacific stereo is price-matching amazon for $309 at the moment. Great deal.
