Default Power supply for XM tuner

Where is the best (and easiest) place in the S2000 to obtain power for an XM tuner box? I am thinking about installing it under one of the seats; I guess there is not enough room behind the passenger side dash panel.

Which tuner box do you have?

The Terk one that most people love is tiny and could easily mount behind the dash (or nearly any panel in the car). http://www.terk.com/xmdirect/.

What other equipment are you installing along with the Terk box? I used the XM Direct box with a Terk Pioneer adapter. I used the same power/ground connection as the radio for the adapter, and the tuner gets +12V and ground from the adapter via the cable that connects those two boxes. No problems.

This was in my old Integra, I just stashed it under the passenger's seat. It should fit under the passenger's seat in the S2000.

I have an old Alpine XM tuner in my S2000, it is pretty big and I stashed it on top of my gas tank. We ran the power wire to the fuse box. I didn't really want to install any electronics in the cabin unless I had to because of theft, exposure to the elements, etc.

The generic XM Direct tuner box is powered from the headunit if you have the appropriate cable (pioneer, alpine, sony, whatever). If you have an older brand-specific XM tuner, or are using the XM Commander, then I think you need to tap into the power.

Hi:
depending on th power requirments of the XM you ought to be able to run it from the HU power fuse.

I think you could grab a 12V line from behind the dash. You can splice off the HU or accessory (cigarette lighter) wires.

Thanks for the help! I am going to use the Terk commander with the stock head unit (using a PIE auxillary input converter). If I want to tap into the cigarette lighter power supply, how do I remove the storage compartment to gain access? Don't I need a constant power supply as well as a switched one (cigarette lighter)?

You don't need a constant supply for the XM I use. I dkought if it will be necessary but I am not familialr with the particular unit you are using. A constant supply is mainly necessary if you will use the XM with the rest of the car off.

Try searching for the MY04 console conversion. Someone posted a step-by-step DIY guide to the entire disassembly process a while back.
