Default Problem with Alpine X305 Headunit

Evening all,

I'm in the process of installing a headunit I purchased from a friend, an Alpine iDA-X305. I bought the cables recommended on here from a Celsus ASC2629 and the ASCALPP.

I have full ipod functionality from both of my nano devices, I can see the tracks being played on the screen. I also have full control from the dash controls too which is a bonus. However, there is absolutely no sound going to the speakers, even when on radio setting I'm not getting that noise you'd expect even without the aerial plugged in.

Any ideas? Is it the Celsus unit? All the speaker cables seem to line up on the connectors, there are a couple of spare cables from the back of the headunit, but there isn't anywhere for them to connect too, I don't think that's the problem.

Few pics to help.

It's hard to tell from the pictures if the wiring is correct, but if the colors match
(or colours, for you UK types), it's probably fine.
A few of possibilities:
  • the headunit could be muted
  • the fader could be set to non-existent rear speakers
  • the headunit's internal amp could be turned off, especially if your friend used an external amp
Here's the manual if you don't already have it. The internal amp setting is on page 24.

It was indeed the internal amp being set to off. Thanks for the pointer.

Now I just have to try and route the USB cable to the centre console
