Alright, I'm working off of two sets of installation instructions so I'm kinda confused, but this is what I did...

I installed the HU yesterday it worked perfectly. Then I went to install the PAC-SWIX, I hooked up the black, red, and white (formerly green in the pac swi3) to their corresponding wires on lucid's harness. I then programmed the PAC-SWIX and it worked (minus the mute button because I hadn't wired it yet). I was confused about the mute so I did that last. I had MacGyver's schematic so I went to radio shack and bought a relay (not the one he used because I only had a print out of his schematic, not the text he wrote beside it with the radioshack p/n) it was a "PC Relay 12VDC coil rated 10A at 120VAV/24VDC." No idea what all of that means, but I installed that and then I also installed the 3.3k ohm resistor between the white (formerly green) and black wires of the PAC. As far as I can see, everything is exactly like MacGyver's schematic. I then when to test my HU again, I'm happy to report that the mute button works, but here is where the problem is. The PAC unit is sending a constant signal through the ir eye (ie. last night it was sending a constant volume down signal, so I couldn't turn the volume up, today it is sending a signal that switches between CD mode and radio mode - the right LED on the PAC unit is always on too). What is the problem? Should I go out and try the relay MacGyver suggested? Any ideas?

Thanks a lot!

try programming without a resistor, then with a 3.9k ohm.

It works...

Don't know why. I took out the resistor between the white and black PAC wires (the exact same configuration I tested yesterday) and for some reason it works.

Thanks for your suggestion lucid.

Nside,

The resistor is only for the SWI-3...PAC modified and combined several of their units to deal with cars such as ours and redubbed it the SWI-X. The relay you picked up is overkill, but that won't do any harm. Good to know a relative beginner can read that schematic...

Some S2000s need a 3.9kohm resistor between the white & black wires for the MODE button to work. I ususally suggest to have it in place 1st when programming it and if it doesn't take, then remove it.

Just for info, I just installed the SWI-X (thanks Lucid) in my 02. Using an Alpine 7965 and a standard automotive relay from autozone($3.99), all functions including mute and mode button work great WITHOUT any resistor. Don't know if they changed the 02, the SWI-X or I just got lucky... I would recommend buying the relay from Lucid when you get your SWI-X. For about a buck more he wires the diode protected socket for you.
