Default Promixity Sensor Worth The Money

Getting my alarm installed tomorrow and I want some feedback on members who have the promixity sensor. What keeps me from wanting to get it is when the installer said if someone stands to close it will go off or if it rains. Seems like it would be more of a hassle to always turn it off and get false alarms.

I get false alarms ALL the time, Especially when its hot outside. I have the sensitivity turned down, so its not as bad as it used to be. I have a pager alarm, so it wakes me up at night.

Prox sensors can be VERY finiky. It's actually Super important where they are installed and what surfaces they are installed near/on. For example if you were to install it inside the center console against the metal floor of the trans tunnel, you'll get lots of false alarms. Its best to install one behind the dash, above the center vents and to the right of the steering wheel. There is a vacant area where the JDM nav unit/screen would normally go. The direction the unit faces is important as well.

The 2nd big issue is setting them up is a pain. Because microwave sensors will also react different should the top be up or down it will actually change how they sense and potentally cause false alarms. It could take over an hour to properly set one up. IMO they are not worth it, but by golly you'll know it every time a cat walks over your car for sure.

My suggestion. Don't leave the top down unattended, besides this days people are more likely to ignore an alarm or even curse at your car for being so annoying.

I use a 2 way pager system and if it goes off i look out the window. I have no siren setup so that in case someone is f'ing with my car they wont know the alarm is going off and i can sneak up on them.

Honestly what I need. Currently raining and it's either leave the car locked had have the alarm keep going off or have the car unlocked.

I talked to a shop that installed my viper alarm about it and they said most people that have them installed come back a week later and want it disabled, they said that they go off all the time.
