Unhappy Something setting off motion sensor in car?

Okay, My car has an alarm with motion, shock, and tilt sensors, they've been in the car for years. For some reason tonight the alarm is just activating and I'm trying to figure out why - this is with me standing and watching the car, and the alarm just tripping.

I have a DEI motion sensor under the center console, and in the center console I have a magnet and an altoids tin, and a remote for the HU. Could any of these items be setting off the motion sensor? Can a magnet too close to the sensor trip it?

I removed the tin, remote and magnet to see what happens tonight - Anybody have any ideas or troubleshooting suggestions for why the alarm would start tripping now?

Thanks for the magnet tip - any idea why that sets it off?
