Q: Alpine HU repair
I have an Alpine CDA-7998 that's about 2 1/2 years old. The "BioLite" display just went dim, then faded to black over 2 days. Anybody have sugestions of where I can get this repaired, or if it's worth it? It was a pretty pricey deck and everything else works fine, so I would like to salvage it if posible.
You might try using the service center locator on Alpine's web site (http://www.alpine-usa.com/).
The use frames so a direct link is a bit of a pain. Click on Products -> Parts & Service -> Locate Nearest Service Center.

I had the same problem with my CDA-9835 about 3 months into owning it; I think mine is biolite too.
The dealer I bought it from advertised that it had a factory warrantee (it didn't) but had HIS dealer ship it back to Alpine. Otherwise it would have been a flat $100 repair fee.

OH! That's where that info was. DUH, I was looking under "Support."
I have the same HU. I got mine included in a deal which included all kinds of S2000 custom stereo goodies. Installed the HU and hate it. I'm just waiting for the right moment to chuck it for something else. No memory for angle settings. forced Auto-retract when powering off, had to cut a "spare" radio door for install, plus the functions just don't suite me. The only reason I installed it at all was because I though it was better than stock. For the money there are 100 other better suited options on the S2000.
Why did I waste my breath here? To recommend you throw it in the trash and use the "repair" money for a better suited HU. I would.

I agree with the fact that it's not suited very well to the S. This was a carryover from my previous car where it worked much better. However, I don't have the disposable cash to just flush it because the lights went out.
(Mine remembers the angle, I didn't have to cut anything to install, and I have no reason for the face to stick out when it's not in use.)
