Questions of what to get and how and why and (YES AGAIN!) amp installation
This is my plan...(I'm not that knowledagble in stereo system so please enlighten me!)...
Aftermarket head unit, new separates for the front with the lucid's door speaker adapter kit , new rear speakers with Lucid's rear panel cutout, an amp, and one sub.
1. How should the audio system be wired to achieve a nice sound? Separates to the amp, rears to the head unit, and sub to the amp?
2. I am looking at purchasing an Alpine V-series amp. I'm assuming that to do #1., I should get a 4 channel amp: 1 channel each to the separates, and bridge the other 2 channels and connect that to the sub?
How about a 5-channel which means all speakers incl the rear will be powered by the amp?????
3. Which model/size of Alpine V-series amp will fit in the area where the spare tire is???
4. I did a search on amp installation around the spare tire area but I didn't see any. Can someone point me out a URL will have instructions with pictures???
5. I think I'm gonna go with the JL-AUDIO stealthbox for the s2k. Any other cheaper option?
I'm suprise there is no FAQ in the FAQ section for audio installation.

Calvin,
I'm not a car stereo expert, but I think you would want to run your 4 speakers off the same AMP, and
either power your sub separately, or opt for a 5 channel amp. Here's my setup below, as I hope
it helps to explain things a little bit...
I am currently running an Alpine V12 MRVF-307 (4 Channel) which takes care of only my 4 speakers.
I want to add a sub, but will have to add another amp as well. My headunit is just a tuner. In hindsight,
I wish I opted for a 5 Channel amp, but figure adding a separate sub amp will be better. (More power!) The
MRVF-307 actually has a separate preout that you can attach another amp to, or I can preout from my headunit
as well (Alpine 7977). My amp is just placed on the top left side of my trunk with the 6 disc CD-Changer on top.
I was concerned about trunk space, but actually like the location. It is certainly a personal preferance.
I think I'm going to add a V12 MRV-T407 to power a sub. Not sure what sub though...
It really depends on your head unit the way the rest of your system goes.... Like I said, mine is a tuner, so I need
to amp everything up separately. I think you'll hear from myself as well as others on this board that the Alpine
V12 Amps are great. When paired with an Alpine headunit, you have so much control over the sound.
Anyway, good luck on your sound system. Be sure to get good front speakers...

1. How should the audio system be wired to achieve a nice sound? Separates to the amp, rears to the head unit, and sub to the amp?
I would wire them all to the amp. Get a 5 channel amp - aka a "4+1" in some circles, where the +1 has a little extra juice for the sub.
2. I am looking at purchasing an Alpine V-series amp. I'm assuming that to do #1., I should get a 4 channel amp: 1 channel each to the separates, and bridge the other 2 channels and connect that to the sub?

Exactly.
3. Which model/size of Alpine V-series amp will fit in the area where the spare tire is???
If you take the spare out, you should be able to fit just about anything. With the spare in you'll have a hard time fitting anything 5 channel.
4. I did a search on amp installation around the spare tire area but I didn't see any. Can someone point me out a URL will have instructions with pictures???
Basically you'll want a short ground wire secured somewhere back there, run the power and signal back from the battery and head unit. Once you've got the interior trim pieces out the path is pretty straightforward. Here's some pics of an early iteration of my stereo that was ugly, but simple and effective.
5. I think I'm gonna go with the JL-AUDIO stealthbox for the s2k. Any other cheaper option?
You could get a generic Q-Logic box that'll fit your sub for quite a bit less. Not a perfect fit, but quite good, and easy to remove for racing. I had a custom fiberglass enclosure made for less than a Stealthbox, but doing so is a gamble if you don't know the fabricator.
I'm suprise there is no FAQ in the FAQ section for audio installation.
There used to be a "stereo" page, but that was back in the days before there was the electronics forum...today this forum is a living FAQ.
I've got some pictures at http://www.mysterons.com/s2000/stereo to maybe inspire you a bit...
Good luck!

Here is a quick over view of what I have done to my S2000.
First, I replaced the factory head unit with an Alpine CDA-7977. The unit has the automatic tilting front face and fully digital display. It is an incredible deck and looks very good installed in the console.
Second, I added a 2-channel Alpine MRP-T130 180W amplifier into the trunk. The amp mounted very cleanly on the passenger side of the trunk.
Then, I replaced the factory 6.5" speakers with Infinity Reference Series 652i 60W speakers.
The system sounded very good after it was completed far better than the sorry system that Honda designed for the car. However, all of the sound was coming from the front and the imaging of the overall system was not very good.
I have just recently purchased the Lucid rear speaker assembly consisting of the Lancer speaker set. Additionally, I purchased a 400W Sherwood amp. The new amp and speakers have not been installed into the car yet. The amp is considerably larger than the Alpine currently installed and I will be mounting it in the recessed space where the tool kit is located.
Once I get the system fully installed and running I will post comments and pics. Hopefully, everything will sound good once I am done with it.

Get rid of the spare tire, like I did. It's all but useless anyway, and with it gone you have the room you need for an amp, capacitor, and other goodies, where they're out of sight and out of mind.

here's a really good setup without lossing space. cda 7977 with mbq psc 216 component powered by alpine t757 amp behind driver seat and 8" rs bazooka powered sub. really awesome system. ask HONDAGUY and he'll tell you how impressed he is with this setup...
oh my setup is sweet also, but not as powerful as hondaguy. i think if i had to start over agian then i would go with the setup.
