Cops around here have their fav spots and when I'm in a pack of cars my Lazer goes off for 15-20 seconds.
I'm not sure if the cops alway hell bent on me for a ticket, maybe X50 picks up the lazer from other cars. Just not sure how sensitive it is.
Other times when I'm the only car it will sing just for 5 seconds... and then I see him parked off the street in the dark of the night

Here in So. Cal lots of cops use Lazer at the front plate, I feel it may not work as well, mounted high
Ie. 1000 feet lazer at front plate only has 15 inch circle beam, Closer to the detector.

I even email the guy who test all the detectors. He said Highter for Ka better distance
lower for lazer, because it has a small beam up to 2000 feet, most lazer ticket are 700-900 feet

i have mine hardwire in that position, but mine is velcro to the dash instead of suctioned to the windshield

I have my cobra (yeah sorry i'm cheap) hardwired, right below the mirrow. I was under the impression there are no false alerts for laser.

IMO you can only benefit from a radar detector in a pack of cars. You will most likely get a warning when someone ahead of you is being lasered or gunned. If you're the only car ---> it will go off when they hit you, hence to late to slow down...

My Passport 9500 is hard wired and mounted near the left corner of my windshield, about four inches above the dashboard.

I read recently in a test where it actually didnt matter at all if your detector was sitting on the dash or at the top of the windshield. It doesn't affect the range of the detection by any significant amount.

Technically, a RADAR detector should be mounted high and in the center of the windshield and level with the dash. IF you have rear sensors, it should have an unobstructed view of the rear, too.

If you have a LASER detector, it should be mounted low, but off of the dash and have a clear view of the front---i.e., not behind a metal windshield wiper.

Since laser warnings are just an indication you have just been tagged, I mount my V1's high and in the center and point them VERy slightly downwards.

I've had no problem receiving laser alerts from the front AND the rear mounting the way I described above. Then again, I believe the V1 has more laser sensors than does the belscort (Bell and Escort are now one) models.

I've run Cincinnati Microwave (Escort), Bel, Uniden, Whistler and Cobra units over the years. Use the V1 for a month and you'll wonder what you ever did without the arrows. I was always a "hater" of the V1 and the "arrows." I'm a converted member now---they definately make a difference. Try it...

YMMV.
