I would put up another vote for V1.
No need to buy a wireless detector just because that is what you are looking for, it's REALLY easy to hard wire any radar detector, thus no wire as to say.

I have not used or tested the others, but from what I have read and my personal results w/ the V1 I would recomend it to anyone.

The arrows are truly beneficial and it's features on top of that match the rest.
price is the only down side I can see.

I love my Escort 8500, but if I have A LOT of money, I will get V-1
It's just you pay way too much just for the arrow thing (the only thing that 8500 doesn't have)

btw, there is a new escort 8500 X50? I don't remember the name, but it has an upgradable software just like V-1

okay how about 8500 old one vs the 8500 x50 ?
differences ? anyone own both?
i all was told by a retail work is the blue lights and a faster processor + POP detection... does that justify the 100-50$ price difference of the 2

Lord knows we have seen enough of the V1 vs. 8500 over the many years. However, I would like to hear about the 8500 X50 vs. the V1 if anyone has tried both of those.

Well, as an owner of all the detectors being asked, V1, Escort 8500(old), Escort 8500 X50. I guess I can give you my honest opinion on all three.

Do not buy the Escort 8500 (old), compare this with the new X-50, the old one has shorter K,Ka range and cannot detect POP. The new X-50 with red LED is 299 (same price as the old one) The X-50 blue is 50 bucks more. Both are the same except for the LED color. Most vintage radar detector users would say V1 is definitely better than the old 8500 because of longer range, and arrows. And I agree with them 100%. Range on the V1 is definitely better than the old 8500. BUT if you put the X50 into the picture I would say the X50 is the better choice IF you can get away without the arrows.

The reason for this is
- X50 has longer or equal range than the V1 ver 8 (latest model)
- X50 has less false alarm, when I say less its 2 out of 15, and the
V1 has 4-5 out of 15.
- It has POP, now POP is just a KA, but is done by short bursts. So far only
Nevada troppers use this, but who knows? so better to have the option
and not using it, than not being able to detect when you need it.
- The Ka K lights on the V1 is hard to read at night, so you won't know if its
a K or Ka thats hitting you, although you can get use to just listening. The
Escort has excellent visual and LEd's that shows you at quick glances.

Now whichever you pick is up to you. I had the old escort 2 yrs ago, then decided to upgrade to V1, after using it for 3 weeks, I decided to go back to the Escort X-50.

Hope this helps.. good luck with your choice!

Please be very very careful how you research this topic. There a lot of sites on the internet which pretend to have an objective comparison of radar detectors, but in reality aer just clever advertisements for their products. The only reviews that I have found that I can trust are on the car and driver website. Also Motorcycle consumer news has had some good articles on laser detection/defeat.

Bottom line is go with V1. I am yet to see an unbiased review that has not put this unit on top.

Those of you who have different radar detectors, please provide links to where you read the review - this should help a lot. Again, most of these in my experience are garbage (remember Rocky Mountain Radar Detector/Defeater?)

For burst detection your only hope is that it bounces off of the car in front of you. Same for Laser, but even less of a chance. According to Motorcycle Consumer news, with a V1 you have about a 50% chance of evading laser.
