I have the solo s2 and it saved me numerous amounts of times until last week when i got pulled over. The problem with the the s2 is that once the battery is running low the performance isnt that great and plus you could barely hear the detection since its battery powered. I would definetly get the 8500 x50 since my brother has it. I did a test and put both on my car and the result is the x50 has better range, less false alarms, and better overall detection. The s2 is the best wireless detector out there but I would rather go for the x50.

The new X-50 with red LED is 299 (same price as the old one) The X-50 blue is 50 bucks more.
Do a search on here for posts made by me re radar detectors, or search for "sbhcorp"

I got my brand new X50 for $250 SHIPPED....all you gotta do is mentioned S2ki when ordering and you will get the same great deal.

I posted about it extensively on here.

btw...I have no affiliation to the company.

The range on the new X50 is awesome....much more than the V1...and the old 8500 was an equal comparison....so the new X50 is much better.

I am using a 8500, b/c I cant afford a V-1
also V-1 tells u where r the signals coming from, which I dun think alot of radars do that......
yeah, but i'll love the x50 as well....

This is my point. How do you know that X50 has a better range then V1? Are you going based on what the company tells you? List your sources for saying this. I am not trying to be #$%#$%, I'm actually curious to see this for myself.

I am going by the fact that most sources will tell you that on KA band the 8500 is comparable to the V1. The V1 only have the advantage over the 8500 on laser (and the fact you pick up less false alerts on X band).

Now...knowing that the X50 is much improved over the 8500 (I have both in my cars right now so know this as FACT), I am deducing that the X50 has better range than the V1.

Im not sure there are tests yet of the V1 vs X50....im just using logic.

I keep reading about the lack of range on the "old" 8500 vs. the V1 or the X50. Just how much range do you people need!? My 8500 (2003 Model) has a consistent 1-1.25 mile range. At times I have forgotten that I got a signal because the cop has been so far away.

Add another vote for the v1... Hmm... can I make that two as I own two? :-)

No the old 8500 is not comparible with the V1. The old escort didn't have much range, I know i used it along with the group of v1's. The range matters because when your in a hill, the chances of detecting the cop on the other side of the hill increases. This matters to me, as for the x-50 the range did improve, better than V1? a very very little bit, but the false alarm on the v1 is greater and this annoyed the heck out of me, plus there's no pop.

Detecting POP even though your pretty much dead when your shot at it is because, BY LAW the officer has to switch to ordinary KA before he can give you a citation. So when you see a POP slam your brakes, if you have a radar that can't see that, then all ull see is KA and wham! So every bit matters..

This topic has been fought for over and over both are great radar, but whichever you choose, just don't buy the old escrt 8500. It is a good radar but for 50 bucks more, you can get the new model.
