NJHB: Do they sell radar detectors in the U.K. now? Are they legal? If not, and your only option is to buy a detector from the U.S. (or any other country), will it be compatible with British police frequencies?

Read everything on http://www.speedzones.com and then decide for yourself. I think the Passport 8500 and the latest V1's are comparable. I chose the V1 with no regrets.

I have had a V1 in the past (it has since been stolen) and found that despite the excellent performance the size of the unit was a real drawback. If I chose to upgrade my older passport I would buy the new 8500.

I've got Valentine V1 hardwired in up by the rear view mirror with a remote head attached under the dash lip by the heater control. All the lights and beeps show on the remote which I can mute with an easy jab. I like it a lot.

There are many V1 disciples, but I went with the 8500. Great so far, but out here in California they seem to pace more than radar.

I'm lovin my Passport 8500. I wish it had the directional display etc. of the V1 but I cannot hang that thing on my window. So far it has exceeded my expectations.
