The Passport 8500 is the way to go. Fully programmable, strength meter and radar "counter". It has already saved me!

Woohoo!!! I received my passport in the mail today! Ordered it from http://www.escortradar.com. $299.00 and no taxes!!! I'll be trying it out big time this weekend so let the sun shine!

BTW, I chose this one over the V1 because of the great reviews and it's compact. Don't want to take up unnecessary space!

Well, I think I am going to go for the big plunge and put in a K-40. Has anybody tried that yet?? Looks like it will be pretty low profile. In this part of the country, the blue light boys are VERY likely to ticket you if they every stop you and they see a detector. This one I have seen installed in other cars, and you just cant see it from outside the car.

Model is un3000swl. The best $ found on it is $579 at

I must say that the V1 is simply amazing, however there are ultimately three things that everyone who owns one will agree wholeheartly with me.

1st, the weight should be lightened even further. Consider the materials used is almost top grade, maybe a titanium version will be optional one day, the price is already the highest but there are many out there who will pay for only the best.

2nd, the overall size. Though that might affect the detector operational functionality. But likewise, I'm sure it won't be so obvious when you drive a convertible where it sticks out to tell everyone that you're equipped for radar battle.

3rd, not that I'm not contented with what I paid for. But I believe some will prefer optional colors for the output lighting. Considering red is bright, blue will definitely capture more attention and improve the overall lighting for the unit.

I started out to go K-40 but went with the Escort SR-1. It is pretty cool. I mounted the remote under the left panel beside the steering wheel. It is easily seen when you are sitting in the drivers seat, but not by anyone else!! You cant even tell its there with the top down standing next to the car with the door closed (the normal position SC troopers seem to use when talking to you in your car about how fast you were going . They REALLY dont care much for radar detectors here...even tried unsuccessfully to make illegal.

I have a Passport 8500 in another car. This weekend, I am going to ride around with both and test sensitivity. at the website http://www.radartest.com the 8500 blew the V1 away!!

I originally bought the Passport 8500. I wasan't really happy with it so I ordered the Valentine 1 and compared them both. After about a week the 8500 went to Ebay and the V1 became my travel buddy-I love it. I also read the tests before I bought including the one on http://www.radartest.com. Sorry, there is something not right about that report-many here on the forum believe that test was biased. Anyway the only test that matters to me is personal experience and even though the 8500 is a competent detector, the Valentine 1 gets my vote IMHO. Have fun and I hope you see them before they see you.
