Radar Detectors
After the last 2 weeks of reading everything I could find on this board and the internet I finally decided to order the Valentine-1 which should arrive in a couple days. I tried out the Passport 8500 for a while and it was alright but the features of the V-1 really appealed to me (especially the directional arrows). After I've used the V1 I'll post and give my opinion how it compares with the 8500.
Once you get used to the directional arrows, it'll be hard to compare the V1 to anything else. I have a V1 in my S2K, and a Passport 7500 for my 4Runner (I scrimped a little since I drive it much slower). The Passport works fine, w/ a little less range...but I always feel clueless as to which direction the radar is coming from. Even if other detectors surpass its performance, I'll stick w/ the V1 as long as it's the only one w/ the directional indicators (I think they have a patent on that feature).

I looked into radar detectors about a month ago. My biggest problem with radars is the fact that you have to remove the radar from the windshield everytime you get out of the car and have the top down. Also, that damn power cord running from the windshield to your left elbow sucks too.
After searching for a while, I found my dream radar. In addition to great sensitivity and alert reviews, it's also a hidden install. It's the Passport SR1. Sensors are mounted in the grill and behind your car. The display is tiny and can fit on top of your steering column, right under the speed display. This keeps people from stealing your radar detector and removes the hassle of always having to lock up your detector.
Having said all this, I don't have it installed (yet?). The radar and professional installation was way too expensive for me. If price isn't a factor, check out the following article on the SR1 and some of its competition.
