Default Recommend a new receiver

Hey guys, its been years since I've been here but I need a new receiver as mine died. I have the modifry kit for my old Kenwood stereo but it looks like I'll need to rewire or buy a new harness from him. Looks like if I stick to Kenwood or Alpine I won't need to replace the DCI for my steering wheel controls. I rarely use the stereo but the wife wants it so I just want a nice new unit, no amp or subs. I have new speakers in the doors. Are all new units going to basically be the same as far as power goes? I'd like to get as much sound out of the speakers as possible without an amp. Can any of you recommend and Alpine or Kenwood unit?

Go to Crutchfield website. Search by manufacturer. Look for units with built in amp, or that have more watts (power). Always compare RMS watts, not peak power or any other such nonsense.

Consider a digital media receiver (no CD player). Smaller, easier to install (fits in same DIN, just doesn't go very deep).

Aren't all single din receivers the same size? Shouldn't anything fit in the car? In my research there dont seem to be many options for higher powered receivers but I saw a thread here for a Sony that fits the bill but its around $300. I was hoping that someone else had already found something that worked for them.

I just went to crutch field and nearly everything that is supposed to fit is sold out. I also dont see anything with more than 18 RMS watts. Thank you for the reply.

For Kenwood, I like the Kenwood eXcelon KMM (or KDC if you want to play CDs) X704. For Alpine, I like the Alpine CDE-175BT.

Get one that is BlueTooth capable. I replace the OEM Honda one with an Alpine 145BT, 6-years ago. It has been reliable.

Dsxgs80 has more 40+ RMS per channel. Keep your DCI but you will need a brand specific adapter

Ignore the Crutchfield does it fit recommendations. They are off on what fits this car.

All single din are same width and height, but depth can be as short as the stuff inside can be made to fit. A digital media receiver is much shorter body, like less than half, as no cd player.

Another option is to fit a mini, class D amp behind the digital media receiver, since now there is extra room.

Pioneer used to make one, might still be able to find new. Kenwood makes one still. I think someone else does too. These are around 90W rms per channel in bridged mode. So lots more power than any amplified receiver will ever give you.

I have a Pioneer digital media reciever, and that Pioneer amp mounted in dash, hidden behind receiver. Then I have a Pioneer underseat bass unit hidden in passenger footwheel. A decent system for a noisy convertible.

I just installed a Alpine CD 172 BT, along with all the Modifry stuff. Dash controls work perfect.
Hands free calling with Microphone, CD player, Sirus XM, Ipod ready $ 149.00 on Crutchfield. Have
a JL Audio amp in the trunk where the spare tire used to be. I like it.......

When you changed out the stereo to an aftermarket one, do the audio controls on the dash still work? I’m thinking of changing mine out in my ‘03 but want the controls to work.

You'll need to get a dash interface form Modifry (www.modifry.com) has them for
Alpine and Pioneer, he has everything you need specific for the S2000.
