Recommendation on speakers
Hey guys,
I've been looking through crutchfield for speakers that fit the s2k and almost all of them have good reviews but almost all of them have people that mention the bass being horrible and almost non-existent.
Any recommendations of good speakers that have good bass and wouldn't require a subwoofer/amp? I'm not completely against an amp/subwoofer but my budget is a little tight at the moment so I'm not willing to spend over a 1000 if possible.
The current head unit I'm looking at also is http://www.crutchfield.com/S-gSaM78z...84#details-tab (which I would get with the modifry DCI), would this be powerful enough to power what you are recommending? Don't really know anything about sound systems or what is required to power them.

What year is your car? Not sure if you are looking at component systems with a separate tweeter since you didn't specify your model year. Keep in mind that some (maybe a lot) of 6.5 speakers that Crutchfield says will not fit our car, actually do fit with the use of a spacer. So if you only search for Crutchfields speakers that fit S2000 you are missing out on a lot of options.
I think most 2-way components aren't meant to be really bass-heavy since they typically would get used with a subwoofer but you should still be able to find some that have some decent bass. Sorry I can't offer specific recommendation because I use a subwoofer. But I like my JL audio C5-650. Sounds great and powerful. But like I said, I have a sub and the 6.5 is high-passed at 110 hz at 12db/octave I believe, so I can't really speak to their bass-handling capabilities because I've never tried to play any bass through them.

2002 AP1, didn't realise the year made a different when it came to sound sorry. I just assumed that having a sub would make it a lot more expensive, but I could be wrong. What was the total cost of your setup? The only people I see saying that they have amazing set ups with nothing missing (most people say they have at least one problem whether it be not enough bass or something else) are all spending over a 1000, I'm alright with that just can't afford it right now, just wanted to at least get a new head unit soon as I'm just worried that it's not powerful enough to power much (just going off the price of it not sure how much watts is actually required).
Also if I was to go the route of getting a sub, would I need a more powerful head unit then the one I linked?

Well, you're right about one thing. I am completely happy with the sound and performance of my setup, but it cost me over $2000. That includes a pioneer deh80PRS, footwell sub, 2 alpine amps, the JL component speakers, cables, dynamat. The head unit you linked should be fine. It has no bearing on a future sub install because you will use an external amplifier to power the subwoofer. Just look for a set of speakers that have power requirements that match with the output of your head unit (the RMS power spec). And just don't have unrealistic expectations, you're probably not going to get that much bass from the 6.5 speaker
If I was to get a sub woofer and amp etc, and was looking to spend $500-2000, what would you recommend ? I honestly don't know anything about car audio and don't even know where to begin to start looking at I'm not sure what's required (as in not all of them have tweeters etc), what exactly do I need to look for, what parts, what specs should I be looking at to decide? Any reconsiderations would be nice, new head unit should be here soon so I'll be looking to order some speakers asap as well (:
Hmm. I hesitate to recommend specific products because I'm not a stereo guru, I just know what worked for me. I really like the footwell sub, there's a thread about it here. It's relatively inexpensive and you can pair it with a cheap amplifier. I got an Alpine sub amp from Crutchfield, it was like 150 and works very well.
