Default Recommended Alarms Please

Hi! - I'm in the market to buy an alarm for my S. I would like an Alarm that has a good proximity sensor and has Trunk, Hood, Door, Dome Light etc. I'm currently looking at a Clifford Intelliguard 9000 and like its features.

I would just like to hear what some of you would recommend. Thanks much in advance.

I have not seen any alarm with a built in Proximity sensor. Usually it is an add-on.

I wanted a two-way pager type alarm. The advantage of this setup is that it can alert you if someone sets off the alarm. These work within a particular range of the car.

The DEI version (sold under Rattler, Viper, ect.) Is good. It has a good feature set and a nice user interface. The range is about 1/4mi. It also has a built-in remote start. Because of the fact that the S2k is manual tranny, most shops will NOT install the remote start feature.

I choose the CompuStar alarm. There are a couple of models, but I have the Spread Spectrum version. The range is rated at 1.25mi. The user interface is not the best, but it is feature rich and it seems to work very well. (No one stole my car yet! ) It might be tough to find a dealer that installs CompuStar, but I think it's worth a look. Check out my thread on the subject in the "Compustar and Passport 8500" link in my sig.

Im running the Viper 350HV with the Responder add on. No proximity sensor, but it does have dual stage shock sensor. I like it, I paid about 475 installed.

I have the Alpine SEC-150R with the proximity sensor, hood/trunk pins, trunk popping, and dual stage impact sensor. And on the proximity (which is very adjustable but a little whacked -- it has to calibrate to light/heat) it gives a visual cue to being tripped, then a soft chirp, and then the full alarm (but these can be adjusted like everything else). I would recommend it after owning the Clifford Arrow II (which is also very nice) on my last car.

Key differences:
Alpine is $100 less than the Clifford and is just as good
Ice Blue "armed" light looks really cool and matches the blue button on the remotes

The Clifford and Alpine are both great and it comes down to personal preference. For more info on the Alpine click the link below or PM me.

Oh, and it also fixes the "cenvenience package" problems with the dome light that some people have complained about on this board (but I would guess the excellent Clifford would too).

WLaurent offers an alarm that is fairly inexpensive and a reasonably easy install... if you're looking for a low cost DYI setup, i would recommend his... it's a Hornet, which is made by DEI (who also makes Viper and Clifford), and it uses all the same add on modules as the DEI alarms...

here's his original group buy thread from quite a while back....
http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...ighlight=Hornet

you can find his pricing and options at his website and his setup comes w/ a nicely packaged set of instructions that make the install pretty easy if you're the handy type... he pre-wires the alarm which means you only need to make 9 connections in the car, and he includes photo instructions showing you where to make all your connections.

it is worth mentioning though... if the thought of pulling panels, splicing wires, or removing your seat give you an uncontrollable urge to run -- this isn't the alarm for you...

Clifford (G5) Avantguard 5?

You don't need to get the remote start function if you don't think it's necessary(so i didn't get that)...
it has pretty much everything you mentioned... doesn't harm you to take a look, eh?
