Default Reconnected XM antenna not working

The PDR place took my trunk off to and said they had to cut the XM antenna wiring. They just twisted the wires together to reconnect them and taped them back up. Now when I change the head unit to XM it displays "antenna" and I don't get anything. Is it because they twisted the wires together, is there something in the wiring that needs to be seperated like coax wiring?

You will most likely need a new antenna. I would make them buy a new one and pay for someone else to install it.

You can not splice an XM antenna

I would make them buy you a new one and then all will be fine

need a new antenna. A good soldered connection MIGHT work, but I am not positive on that. Twisting is definitely a no-no.

I would simply show them that it says "antenna" on your XM unit. They cut it. They should replace it. Simple as that.

The antenna is not like speaker wires which can be soldered back together. I cant exactly exlain why sorry.

You can buy a new one for $30 or so. Probably looking at $40-60 for labor.

The antenna lead is a high frequency ultra low voltage transmission cable. The cable is a shielded coaxial cable with a specific type of insulation and specific distance between conductors required to maintain signal strength at sattelite transmission frequencies. The antenna lead should have been disconnected and not cut. Twisting the wires together MAY allow SOME signal to pass through but obviously you are no longer getting enough signal for the receiver to operate.

How's that for an explanation for the PDR guy?
