Removing Mode button from audio controls
just got my replacement dash controls in (early
) so now ive got 2 sets of controls to screw with. my plan is to remove the big obnoxious Mode button, and replace it with a dimmer switch, which will be connected to some footwell lights. now here's where im needing some insight..
there are 3 holes in the board for the audio controls (1 for "Mute" light, 1 for "Audio Control" light, and 1 for"Mode Push" light). the latter 2 are for area around the "Mode" button, which is going to be removed anyway. it should be plenty of room to run the majority of the excess wiring behind the board, and theres about 1" of free space once i take out the Mode button and all of its supports. i dont think im going to have issues with space as long as the switch is smaller than 1.5" x 1.5" X 1"
my footwell lights are going to be red LEDs. black box with 12v power and ground, and 4 light tubes coming off the black box. pretty simple setup, most people wire to radio's 12V power. ill probably end up doing the same so the lights come on with my radio. i can just turn the dimmer all the way down during the day or when i want them off.
the switch im looking at is OEM-looking enough, BUT it has these pins in the back and im just about the farthest thing from an electrician or even a simple mechanic. would this be a PITA to wire up the way i want?
SWITCH: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER
FOOTWELL LEDS: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...A14SQFNS7ZUDU7
is there something im missing thats going to make this mini-project impossible? do i have any other options as far as dimmer switches go (ive only checked amazon)? any info would be greatly appreciated. im about to start the teardown of my dash. may attempt at a little DIY post in case someone else wants to have a go at it. thanks in advance guys
