Round 2 Audio
Thanks for the info on the Alpine, I am going to use that amp.
I never had any engine noise with my Knu wires, I bought their best rca's and power wires and speaker wires. No complaints in that department.
Asdf, one question i am curious about, why do manufaturers underrate their products. If you had to guess, what would be the more accurate output figure of that alpine mvr 545 amp.
Only thing left now to decide on is the head unit, still want something new and different.. I cant seem to find any head units that give me the ability to manipulate the sound like the pioneer did (time alignment, eq, cross over). And I dont want an alpine either. ANy other suggestions?

I dont have any experience with that Infinity amp, but I am running the Infinity Reference 7520a (2-CH version). I am running my sub off it now, and it hits pretty well. Not overly powerful for the rating. It does push clean bass. It is comparable to my old Alpine V12 amp (dont remember model #, but it was 275WRMS)

most of the time, most cars never see the actual rated power. my guess is when you underrate the amp, in a real world setup, you will get close to the actual rated power.
there is a way to find out the approximate power without using an oscilliscope. you will need a DMM and go by this guide.

i would use a 1khz sine wave when testing it. make sure all your crossovers are turned off at the amp and everything is set flat when testing for power.
i know nothing about your setup so i cant say how much actual power you will be getting. just hook everything up and use that and you will get approximate power.
if you get less than the rated power, dont worry, if you went it a different amp rated for less power, you will get less also.
all i know is that underrated amps are good for competitiors. its always better to underrate than overrate.

Hey Jim.
Wouldn't it be possible for you to mount another board unto the flat amp rack so he could mount the soundstream amp onto it and the let the trunk hinges slide behind the amp? Just a suggestion not sure if it is possible. Hope this idea is worth looking into to.

Interesting idea SHunneycut. But based on the dimensions of the amp, It still wont fit in there. The amp is 10.75 inches wide, i still need some room for the wires as well. It just wont fit. At 10.75, that gives me at best a quarter inch of room on either the top of bottom of the amp.
But when I look at the picture you put up PAS2KNUT, the JL amps are 9.25 inches wide, and it looks like the 10.75 inch soundstream might fit. What do you think, you have personal experience with the panel, assuming another panel was put on top to give me the area where the springs criss cross, do you think the tarantula can fit? From the picture I think yes.
But I have to remember about adjusting the gains, the gains would not be accessible unless I remove the whole panel to adjust.

Jim, Can you explain the power out put of the JL 450/4. I am reading this wrong, but from what I can gather, it puts out 150 watts rms at 4 ohms to the front two channels, and only 75 watts rms to the 3 and 4 channel. Is this correct? This amp sounds great, except that the rear channels make less power than the fronts?
Also it does not say anything about bridged power at 2 ohms either? Is this amp not bridgeable??

Horns, bleh. most setups i have heard lack detail on the top end. these are the Team ID cars btw. Horns are not my taste. What do you like about them?
They are a bitch to install correctly and if they arent installed and tuned right, your ears will start to bleed. i hope you know what you are doing. how much power are you running to them.
let me know if you need more ID stuff, i am friends with the owner, main tech/designer and a speaker builder for them. i might be able to get some good prices for you.
where are you located? they have IASCA competitions every month at image dynamics. if you are local, stop by, i can introduce you to matt and the gang and show you around ID.
