Thumbs up Running IPOD wires

Is there a "how to" on routing the IPOD cable through the center console? I can't figure out where the cable comes out and attaches to the IPOD. Are there any tricks that you can you share?

I'll go after this again tomorrow. I think I've found a way.

ruexp67 and Will have Ipod Nanos that are routing through the center console and come out through the box there (found installed pictures in the Stereo Install Pictures thread at the top). I'm sure they'd be happy to provide some more detailed pictures. I'm looking to do the same, the routing through the console looks easy, but I'm a little unsure about when the cable actually comes out of the glove box.

I have the whole console apart and there are two screws just below the glove box. If you remove these, you can lift the plastic up just a bit to get the IPOD wire through. The problem is when you fish the wires through the console to the radio.

I just found the foam that's around the shift knob. If you move this aside, then you have some room to move the wire to the opening just before the airbag box. I'm just about to try it again and will let you know how it turns out. If I can't get the wires through, I'll do what Avernus did and go in from the side.

Ah, I hadn't looked it in that closely yet. I just got my replacement DCI in last night, so I'm going to be trying to hook it all up this evening. I'd like to find a way to get it straight through down the console without showing, but seems like it might be more trouble than it's worth.

Thanks for the update and tips.

Got the wire in the console and it took all of 30 minutes. It was an easy job after removing the screws on the back wall behind the seats and the screw in the glove box. I took some pictures and will try to do a write up later today. The hardest part was making the hole because of the angle in the glove box and fitting the grommet in the hole. My Dremmel came in handy for this job.

To get the other end of the wire around the head unit, you'll want to take the kick plate off and run it behind that.

Make sure not to try to remove the glove box for this install. It's extremely labor and time intensive. What I did was remove the center console completely, drilled the hole in the back of the glove box for the smaller end of the ipod cable, ran that end of the cable through it... then removed trunk liner. You'll have a view of the hole you drilled in the glove box if you remove the spare tire (for elbow room) and look above the gas tank. Route the cable back under the glove box toward the front of the car. You have to unscrew the bottom of the glove box on the tranny tunnel first. Then, just run the ipod wire under the carpet on the center console until you emerge behind the stereo. Voila.
