Default iPod in Storage Console

I'm buying an alpine cda-9857 with an ipod adaptor and want to have the ipod in the center storage console. How would I go about getting the wire back there?

thanks

Remove the trim on top of the transmission tunnel / gearshift / center console area. Lift the carpet up and lay cable under carpet. Search for DIY stereo install threads in this forum for detailed instructions with pictures.

I just completed this modification. I ended up routing the ipod cable in between where the hinge is for the storage compartment. It took some snaking with this tool I have that has a claw on the end and is very flexible. I was able to route it from the hinge at the door all the way to to the deck. I had to remove the center console and run it all the way underneath. I ran it just past the foam near the shifter where the other roof harness runs. The hardest part was getting from where the shifter was and where the bottom of the deck is. I used the tool the most at this point and taped the ipod wire to this to get it through. All in all, it looks very clean and sounds very good. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures.

The easiest way to do this is remove the panel behind the drivers seat, then fish the wire through the hinge in the center console. It will then fall out under the panel that is next to the one you just removed. Takes all of 5 minutes if even that. The elasticr strap in the center, holds the ipod very nicely, almost like it was made for it.

i just did this yesterday. i routed the full-speed cord under the center console and it comes out in the storage bin. taking out the rear storage area is a pita! youll have to take out the rear soft top trim panel & soft top under panel, to access the 2 lower screws on the backside of the storage area. have fun!

I had to go the long way around as my center console already has WAY too many wires running through it.

However, if you feed the wire through the hinge in the center console, you can get the wire to come out behind one of the "vented" panels behind the seats. I then went under the door sill and around the footwell to the HU. I needed an interface box for my HU, and mounted it behind the vented panel on the passenger side.

Through the center console would have been a cleaner solution, but not available to me.

A long wire tie makes for an EXCELLENT fish-tape for working on cars. (I stole this idea from MacGyver.)
