Running new speaker wire????
O.k. I know everyone said the wiring is tight... but gee whiz.. I can't even get a snake in there... I'm trying the hanger method, since no one seems to have those twisty tie things.
I can't even get the hanger more than a 1/8th of an inch in,as soon as it get passed the lip I hit total blockage... I can't believe anyone can get a wire through it. I'm tempted to drive down to my local audio store and bet them $50 they can't do it
.
So I guess my question is... did you guys really do it or are you just saying you did... Nah just kidding... Does anyone have any more advice then whats on Mcgyvers page? The only thin I can think of is to go outside the tubing. Maybe wedge inbetween the seals?? Not to mention the new wire is extra heavy duty 16 gauge... bigger around then the snake. I think it will survuve the small amount of water dripping on it... I just don't want to mess with those seals...
Anyways, thanks in advance!

just did my wiring today!
This method worked to get a 4 GAUGE power wire from the battery through the grommet beneath the battery without cutting a hole in the grommet! (I'll post a pic when I develop my film).
Check this out... This is the most foolproof way to run fat wiring through the boots and grommets (without taking the doors off, of course).
Here's the procedure with the speaker wire through the door boots as an example....
Step 1-Get to the base of the boot from the inside of the car (not the door side).
Step 2-Carefully push a blunt object, like a chopstick, into the electrical tape at the base of the boot to create an opening in the tape. Wiggle it around to make the hole the size of the wire you are running. Be careful to use a blunt object so you don't cut into the insulation of any of the stock wiring.
Step 3-put a 10 or 12 inch long zip tie (aka nylon tie) in soapy water. This will be referred to as zip tie #1. Any smaller zip tie will not reach all the way through the rubber boot. Any larger and the "head" of the zip tie gets larger, making it harder to fit through the boot opening.
Step 4-Push the soapy zip tie #1 through the hole at the base of the boot, skinny end first. It may take some wiggling, twisting, shimmying, and tweaking, but it will eventually get through. You should be able to see the head of the zip tie from the inside of the car and the skinny side from the door.
Step 5-Strip about two inches of the insulation off the speaker or power wire you want to thread through the hole.
Step 6-Get another zip tie (zip tie #2) of the exact same size. Thread the tail through the head, but don't close it tight yet.
Step 7-Put 1 inch of the 2 inches of exposed wire through the loop in zip tie #2, and close the loop in zip tie #2 until it is tight around the exposed wire.
Step 8-Loop back the inch of exposed wire, and twist it together with the other inch, creating a "knot" between the zip tie #2 and the wire.
Step 9- Wrap electric tape around your knot, all the way over the exposed wire and the loop of the zip tie #2. The electrical tape will make the bulging knot pass through the boot easier. Rub soapy water onto the electrical tape, but not so much that the tape stops sticking.
Step 10-Put the tail of zip tie #2 through the head of the zip tie #1, which is passing through the boot. Pull about 2 inches of #2 through the head of #1.
Step 11-Take the two inches of zip tie #2, and push the tail into the same hole that the zip tie #1 is going through. You may want to rub some soapy water on this, too.
Step 12-On the door side of the boot, put the tail of #1 through the head of a new zip tie, #3. Now you have a new, unsoapy zip tie to pull on.
Step 13-Pull on #3, wiggling the head of #1 through the hole in the electrical tape and through the boot. Use more soapy water if necessary.
Step 14-Keep pulling!! Now wiggle the knot with the electrical tape through the boot. Use more soapy water if you need to. It's neat watching the knot slide through the boot like food through an esophagus or something.
Steo 15-Once you have enough of you wire through the boot, simply cut off the knot, and you're set!
Good Luck!
