Is running speaker wire pointless when...?
The head unit harness uses somewhat thin wires. If you run lower gauge (thicker) speaker cables from your speakers, you are just connecting those to your head unit harness wiring, correct???
Aren't you bottle-necked by the thinner wiring from the harness? Thus making all that work you did running your thicker speaker cables pointless? Or is there another way to connect your speaker cable to your head unit that i'm un-aware of?
Serious question! Just finished running my speaker cable and realized i'm just going to tap in to thinner cables in the harness anyways
. Can someone with knowledge in the field help me understand why we should run thicker cables at all?
Am i missing something?

you generally don't need to run thicker speaker wire for the small amount
of power that the headunit is capable of producing, but if you use an
external amplifier it's a good idea. If you have an amp, the speaker wires
run directly from the amp to the speakers, bypassing the headunit harness.
