S-Pod Info (Consolidated Information)
If you click on the link in my sig re: Audio Setup you will find all kinds of info on my stuff, including the S-Pods. There is a member (marks2002) in the Sacramento Club Forum who designed and is selling them. The link to his thread is in my thread.
S-Pods vs cut panels behind the seats
Today I FINALLY had the opportunity to compare my S-Pods to the other popular rear speaker option.
Customers car already had: crystal component front speakers, Pioneer HU,an amp(don't know what kind), and Pioneer TS-A1357's (5.25's coaxial 150w max) mounted behind the seats in cut panels. The system sounded good. I knew the pods would make a difference, but was apprehensive about the sound quality vs dollars spent.
I installed S-Pods with Crystal components CPe50's(5.25 mids, tweets rated 120w max). Oh My F'ing God! The difference is AMAZING! I may be a little partial because I make the S-Pods, but in a back-to-back comparison: they simply KICK ASS.
Bottom line: not everybody can afford S-Pods, they take a lot of time to manufacture, and use high quality materials...so they cost $$. Cut panels are an inexpensive alternative. BUT...spend 2-3 times more for S-pods, and high quality components and you will be rewarded with a system that sounds 10 times better!

One more thought...6.5 mid bass speakers in cut panels should sound great. Tweets & mids mounted in S-pods where you can hear them, and woofers mounted low where it doesn't matter anyway...who's gonna be first?
Why settle for woofers down low when you can have subwoofers:

Oh, and I'm sure no one cares what I think but I actually heard the S-pods at sac2kdays and was very impressed at how loud they got without external amplification. I'd definitely recommend it for someone looking for a first upgrade or even someone looking for an only upgrade

Thanks for the link to the sub's...I didn't know they made em that small. I eventually went with a 10in sub in the trunk, but these might be a cost effective alternative for someone on a tight budget.
Before adding an amp or sub, I replaced the coaxials in the origional set of S-pods with components and, they worked well without external amp too. Sounded much better than what I demoed at sac2k days.

The S-Pods would work fine without speakers, as a cover only, and I could cover the front grill with the non-perforated leather too. The only problem is I would have to charge the same amount because my labor and material costs wouldn't change.
