Jim,
I origionally installed coaxials in my S-Pods with upgraded ft speakers, stock HU, and no amp or sub...was happy with the sound until I put components in a customers car. So, next step was to add components in the S-Pods = big differance. Later I added an Alpine HU, amp & sub.

If you decide to get the S-Pods, I'd definately go with components.

If they use a seperate "bucket" to mount the speaker; then modification will be needed. If you want to mail me the buckets I'll make the mod for no charge, but allow 2 weeks handling time. S-Pods are currently priced at: $240 + 10 shipping + 16.80tx for CA residents. I am planning to raise the price soon, as well as adding paypal fees. All who have corresponded with me will recieve the lower price.

Will I be able to run Aura Bass Shakers and the S-Pods off the MY01 OEM Headunit without an amp?

Yes to the speakers mounted in S-Pods, if you have a harness to plug into the stock HU. I can sell you one with the S-Pods for $20. I don't know about the Bass Shakers, you might want to ask this in the main forum.

Mark,

My buddy (Bryan) and I just ordered two sets of the pods. I'm in the process of figuring out what speakers I'm going to use for both the doors and your pods. My thought is that I would go components for both, right?

I'm most likely going to end up going with Alpine speakers with an Alpine HU. Not postive on the speakers yet since I really need to audition in person (Considering Alpine, BA Pro Series but need an amp, plus MBs but also quite expensive). BUT, based on your expertise in this area I'd like your opinion.

What is your impression of these in the Alpine line?
SPX-137A
It's not the very top of the line but it's definitely up there.

Thanks,
Shay

Hey Shay,

I'm shipping your S-Pods out on Monday. IMO it's a good idea to match the front components with components in the S-pods. I started with coaxials in the S-Pods, and am much happier with the Crystal components I later installed.

I can't give much advice on specific speaker Brands/Models, but have heard Alpine R's installed in S-pods and was impressed. That led me to choose Crystal's priced about $100 a pair less, but with similar specs.

You are wise to listen before buying. I'm not an audiophile, so a mid priced set of matched components sound great to me. IMO they sound much clearer than coaxials do.

Good luck,
Mark

Mark,

Thanks for the input. Bryan and I can't wait to get the stereo up and running full throttle like the cars. I'll keep you posted on what the final results are but I will definitely do components in the pods and doors,

Regards,
Shay

Mark,

I've read a lot about your spods and am definately interested in buying some, but I have a few questions: 1) I cant really tell from the pictures, but does installing the pods damage any of the panels or interior? I'm just wondering if I sold the car and whoever bought it for some strange reason didnt want it and wanted it removed. 2) I understand you include info on how to install--I'm a novice to car audio, how hard is the wiring? I'm really worried about that and would be bummed if I bought the kit and couldnt install it--esp after spending that much money. 3) What all is included in the kit--I understand you buy speakers separate, but does it include wires or is it just a metal plate, screws, and leather facing? I think those are all of my questions for now--thanks! And it sounds like you have quite a product with all the rave reviews
