Default s2ki electronics geniuses,

ok i'm not sure if this is the correct forum, but it is about electronics, so....

i purchased a robbins top with defroster to upgrade my MY2000 top. i then purchased the harness to wire it. i had to rewire part of the harness to get power to the ends, but i finally got it working, and everything put back together. so i plugged it in and...nothing. the defrost grid doesn't heat at all. i checked the two male ends on the grid for continuity, which is there, and the female ends of the harness for power, which is there at 12.3X volts. the lights on the switch work fine, and the switch works fine as far as turning power on and off at the harness ends. but no defrosting. does anyone have any ideas?

thanks,
jeremy

Might be a defect in the top.

I'm don't know how the defroster is setup in our cars as I don't have one, but I can guess. You say that ou have continuity between the 2 leads on the windshield. Good, it should work. The defrost grid is a resister. Low resistance (ohms) when cold, high when hot. You should have power (12V) on 1 lead going to window and a ground on the other. It sounds like you have 2 power which is the same as no power at all. I might be misunderstanding.

thanks for the responses...

NFRs2000NYC, what sort of defect would show continuity but not conduct electricity do you suppose?

hukares, both ends of the harness aren't power. i get 12V+ when i touch them both at the same time meaning one is power and one is ground. i still confused.

do the ends of the defroster grid you mention lead directly to the matrix,
or could there be a thermostat, timer, or other sort of switch?
another possibility is that the circuit is supplying 12v, but not enough
current to heat the grid.
