Ok, I give in cutting is inevitable. Like the look of the alpine type R. I presume these don't impinge on the window or mechanism??

Crutchfield are good - don't deliver to merry old England though. But also recommended the alpines

Any ideas on the headrest speakers? I don't even know what size speakers will fit.
Cullywoo: Type-R's will most likely need custom spacers, the OEM baskets are too thick in most installs (some have reported that it works fine though). Lucid sells such spacers however If you do mount the Type-R's without spacers then they will hit the window.

As for the headrest speakers, you will need a .75-1" speaker with a VERY shallow mounting depth. I forgot the number now, but it was in some other thread. I have a possible solution as I said before, I guess I just need to get off my a$$ and try it

You could also run speakers in the rear panels or use s-pods, neither are good options for me, but it depends on personal preference, I prefer very little (if any) rear fill, especially in such a small cabin, so they produce too much sound unless faded heavily forward for me. Your opinion may vary though.

Skippy: He has an 07, roll hoop speakers are standard, not the same as your optional ones on the 04.

IMO, making your own spacers out of MDF is way easier than cutting the baskets. And, since a piece of MDF can be gotten at home depot for a few bucks, it will be cheaper and faster to make your own.

Right this is the point when I sound really dumb - when you say spacers do you mean between the door frame mounts and the speaker - resulting in the speaker sticking out proud from the door?

I haven't actually looked at how to fix the speakers yet, I thought I'd get the info and speakers before I get my screwdriver out!

Maybe someone could give me a simple "HOW TO?" on fitting the door speakers assuming a MDF spacer.

Secondly - are the Type Rs worth it if I don't have an amp? A friend suggested the Type Es might be better (and much cheaper).

Not to sound rude, but the link I posted below for you was in the audio FAQ which is stickied at the top of the forum. If you are new to the audio stuff, which we all were at one point, I suggest you read it. It has just about everything you need to know.
