What you're missing is people who might be right on the edge of good reception. When that happens, it's best to have as little between the satellite (or repeater) and the antenna as possible. In most cases it makes little difference as the signal is fairly strong, but it CAN make a difference.
Doesn't pinky has his XM antena in the secret compartment? It seems great there. Does he have any issues with it there?

yes Pinky keeps his antenna in his secrect compartment - as for signal lose, i wouldn't know because we never compaired our systems.. i tried to link up to Davez's pic but it's gone. i might more to a more stealthy methiod
Philip, sorry about not being clear, yes, it's located in the drivers side roll bar.. that's the only place I could see being "uncovered" most of the time and still out of the way.
no big deal... i did catch what you meant, but wanted to be sure. i appreciate the clarification. btw, did your antenna need a grounding surface? how critical is that requirement?

you're right... grounding plane. still, how large does the grounding plane have to be? and is it a requirement on all antennas or just the puck style? this one mentions nothing about a grounding plane and might be short enough to be placed standing in the secret compartment... (haven't measured yet)
i knew it didn't have to be grounded, but (oops) it sure sounded like i thought it did...
The larger the grounding plane, the better, but eventually you run into diminishing returns. For that size/height antenna, and ideal plane would be about 1' square, but what's shown is adequate.
