Sony Direct Wire Install/Programming {long}
If you reverse it so vol+ is on the press and seek is on hold, it will be easier in my opinion since all you have to do is tap the up button a bunch of times to turn it up a lot while still being able to tap it once without error.

I might give that a go. I hate programming the thing. It's hardly WYSIWYG

When I was programming it I couldn't help but think of a young Bill Gates entering 'BASIC' into the ALTAIR 800. He did it but setting a number of switches (8 I'm guessing) on the front then pressing a button. Thousands and thousands of times. And he had to get it right. You'd think with that sort of precision they'd be able to write bug free software wouldn't you

I've never heard back from Sime to know if he is still having problems, or if he is waiting for the adapter fix? What about the 'scratchy' sound he was hearing? Is this still the case? If you are still following this post Sime, I'd like to know what the status is.
Hi Scott,
Sent you an email yesterday (to: dashcontrols@sar.rr.com) regarding the adapter fix. I will take the adapter fix please. So if you still don't have the email I sent you, then please email me at sl_richards@hotmail.com and I'll send you my mailing address again.
Re the scratchy sound, I haven't honestly tested it again, as I don't listen at very low volumes. But I will check it out and let you know. A funny thing did happen though...I was listening to the CD changer, and then left the car. When I got back in the car and turned the ignition on again, the head unit switched to (started up in) AM Radio...which is weird 'cause I never listen to AM radio!! I seem to recall at that time, the temperature was cold in the car and outside (~35 deg F).
It was ok today, but the fact that this happens randomly is what puzzles me.

Sime,
Given that the problems are caused by the 1/8" plug and that this plug is a 3 conductor plug, who knows what signal the radio gets when the wrong conductors are touching.
When I removed the radio to fix the plug, it was not inserted snugly at all; I think the only reason I had consistent (but incorrect!) behaviour is because the mass of wiring behind the radio held it steady when the radio was inserted all the way into the installed position. Perhaps your plug has more room to wiggle around and change which conductors are touching at different times.
Bottom line is I would not worry about any weird behaviour until you get the plug fixed. If you still see this kind of thing after the fix, then you can worry!
