S2Kman,

Got the adapter today and installed...re-programmed the unit (it took a few times, but finally accepted the program). All seems 100%, started the car, drove it, didn't miss a beat. I will try to re-test in the morning but expect all will be fine.

If I haven't already said it....thanks for all the hard work and the support to all in the GB....If anyone else is thinking of this mod....DO IT...all the kinks are worked out and it sure beats the H$LL out of a PAC unit.

[1/18/01 Update]- everything works fine this morning-thanks again

I'm having problems programming the DCU and I am using a harness that was sent back for the plug fix.
1) Mute works fine, mute light corresponds to "ATT"enuation action.
2) I am following the programming sequence and all the lights correspond to what's suppose to be happening except for the final program button, I get a continuous alternating red/green and it never stops. It seems that the Mode and CH buttons are getting the correct program but something weird is happening to the UP vol/Down vol buttons.
3) I tried to program an OFF setting using the Mode/HOLD and also vol/Down/HOLD on separate occasions but it never took. I'm interpreting that a zero code means that for the OFF setting you would just hit the program button without entering any XXXs. Is that correct? I am certain that I have programmed unique actions and that none have been accidentally programmed twice.
4) I disconnected all the harnesses and reconnected them but it still won't take a program.
5) Oh yeh, the radio works fine manually so I don't think it has anything to do with the wiring up of the Sony harness to the DCU. I also added the power antenna plug to slot 1 and now I get AM reception.
6) Just to make sure, the 1st step, turning key to "I". Is that the accessory position or all the way so the dash lights are lit? I tried both ways and nada.
Any ideas?

scooby2,

I seem to have a very similar problem. I got the fix but when I program the DCU, it says there is an error after the last step. I am fairly certain I programmed it correctly as I was able to get it to program before the fix. I am unable to get any of the buttons except the mute button to work. I sent my DCU to S2KMAN and he had no problem getting it to work on his car. I wonder if it has to do with MYs. I have a 2001. In any case, I hope someone finds a solution.

I had the same problems programming after the adapter fix...had to try programming about 4-5 times before it would take....then I wanted to change the functions....it took me another 4-5 attempts before it would take....eventually I got it programmed and it works flawlessly. I would encourage you to continue trying....worked for me.

Kacee,

What do you think the problem was? I tried several times to no avail. I tried at least 10 times last night.

Another round of programming and still nada. Just in case it matters, '02 S2000, Sony CDX-M610.

I disconnected all the plugs again and made sure the DCU jack was securely plugged into the Sony deck. I tried eliminating the Preset Up (10) and Preset Dn (11) commands from all buttons thinking that maybe that was the problem but I still got the alternating red/green lights. Tried for a half dozen more times before I gave up.

I looked at my S2000 (blue) harness and noticed that I have a wire going into pin 19 which you indicate to be Unused. It is a red wire with alternating bands of gray, similar to pin 9 except pin 9 is red/black with alternating bands of gray. From the diagram from the Metra harness which I had previously used, pin 19 is for Illumination so I don't see how that could screw up the programming sequence. FYI, I'm using pin 9, the Illumination Dim Control and my Sony dims correctly, when the lights are on, the display is dimmed.

What next?

Well, Scott did admit the instructions needed some work, but the one thing I noticed in programming that would always cause a failure was to plug in the wired mute wire (light blue, I think) and then program it for Mute Mode 1 (software mute).

I agree, programming this is a pain and easy to screw up. OTOH, it's the sort of thing you only have to get right once, so I'm not going to complain too much.

Some tips I've noticed with the programming:

Don't hold the button you're programming down any longer than required. Hold it continuously as you press the ready button and while the red light is on (about 2-3 seconds). Then release the button.

Make sure you wait for the red light to go out between each of your counting up presses. If you get in a hurry and hit the ready button before the light goes out, it gets confused.

At the very first step, when you hold down the program button while turning on the ignition, release the program button as soon as the program light comes on. The instructions sound like you should hold it down till all the lights go out, and that won't work.
Kap,

No clue on the problem programming....strange...without the adapter fix, it would program with ease...just wouldn't work once programmed.

The first time I tried to program after installing the fix, I pushed a wrong button...I was going from memory and think I pushed the software mute mode...turned key off and started again.....this just seemed to screw everything up...got 4-5 programming errors after this. I was beginning to think this thing has some type of memory in the programming cycle...I screw up, turn off the key, re-try and it somehow remembers where I was at. Needless to say, I re-tried several times and bingo....it takes....flawless functionality included...only problem needed to change one thing....had to go through it all again.

Here is a question for S2Kman....does this thing have a memory, that will a bunch of re-programming (and I do mean a bunch-proabably 40-50 times in my case) it seems to retain some code that affects new programming? Can you flash the system to remove?

I just got the new one back a couple of days ago, and installed it today -- went flawlessly, and is working exactly as I expected/wanted/desired. Now if the car had a couple of more buttons, I'd be totally happy. As it is, there are just some functions it won't do. Sigh.

S2Kman,

My DCU has worked OK for the past several days-put the adapter fix in last week...car sat all weekend and then this morning drove it and had a problem....I have function 9 for the mode-push button...when I switch from CD to FM (mode-hold button), the DCU cycles through FM1, FM2, FM3 etc. As a note, I notice it cycling more as I drive.

I know it is very tight behind the unit. Can this be part of the problem...maybe vibrations on the plug from the dash? Any other suggestions? At this point, should I send it back and let you check it out? Please advise.
