Sony Filter Question
I have a Sony CDX-M600 that I just put into my S2000. Previously I had it in my 2000 Mercury Cougar, where I also had an amp and sub. While in the cougar, I used the High Pass Filter and Low Pass Filter to allow the sub to provide the bass without a great deal of help from the speakers.
Now that I don't have a sub, should I have both the filters set to OFF so that the speakers are allowed to reproduce the complete sound range? From what I can tell so far, if I have the filters set, the sound seems hollow. When I have the filters OFF, the sound seems more complete, with a pretty good amount of bass(as much as can be expected from little speakers at least).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The only time you want the filters on is if you are specifically trying to remove a frerquency range form the signal. In the case of your old setup, you used the lowpass filter to allow only low frequencies to the sub, and the highpass filter to allow only higher frequencies (in this case, usually 100-150 Hz and above) to your less-power-hungry midranges and tweeters. In your new setup where a sub doesn't exist, you need to turn off the highpass filter so it won't cut out the bass frequencies. If the lowpass filter is only operating on a sub-out line, it's state of operation (on/off) is of no concern. However, if it also works on the general RCA/speaker outs, you'll need to turn it off else you'll hear nothing but bass.
Thanks for the info MacGyver! That was exactly what I needed! I am guessing that the low pass filter is tied to the sub-out, because when I changed the filter value, there was no audible change.
