Default Sound System Ideas

So I have decided that I need more noise. I'm probably going to be replacing speakers as well as adding a sub to the trunk. Any suggestions/tips? Thanks!

Go with Focal speakers. They are the best sounding speakers I've ever heard... Also some of the most expensive.

I added two more behind the seats while retaining the factory radio. I also add a sub in the tool well of the trunk, amp mounted behind the driver seat. good enough for me.

I did a write up on my rear speakers recently. Location looks factory

I put in a Sony #DSX-S200X head unit at the first of the year. Provided you don't want to play CDs, this is a great HU for an S2K IMO since my iPod stows away inside. While I was very pleased with the improvement, I still wanted greater volume, better highs and more bass. I wasn't interested in giving up space for a sub if I didn't really have to. After a great deal of reading and reviewing a lot of specs I went with the JBL #P660C component speakers with a JBL #GTO750 amp. The sound quality of the speakers is as good as the specs led me to believe. I wasn't really wanting to spend a small fortune on a sound system in a car that the top is down 95% of the time, but honestly I couldn't be happier. I've got more than enough volume, highs are very crisp & clear and there's plenty of bass. I really feel like I've got the quality sound system this car needs now.

I'd upgrade it all. My AP1 system was absolutely horrible. One of the first things I did was replace it all. Have the Infinity Kappa component speakers, eclipse head unit, kapa 10" sub and a 4 channel amp. Infinitely better from stock. Some audiophiles will say it sucks probably but sounds perfect to me. Spent a bunch on wires and all as well. And got a tool well sub box from ebay for real cheap.
