Hey all...

Just looking for an opinion from anyone interrested in giving one... seems to be some pretty knowledgable floks here...

I recently got a great deal on two pair of a/d/s/ 334i component speakers (4" woofers).

I have heard these speakers in the past n several systems and they sounded terrific. And will be mounting one pair in the back (ala lucid) and will also be using two 8's in the trunk (hats off again to this list for yet another hookup) powered by an a/d/s/ powerplate (110wx2 @ 4ohm). The fronts will be driven by an a/d/s/ p450 (50wx4 @4ohm).

OK... on with the questions

First... I really wouldnt mind saving myself the 700 (ish) bucks on the 6.5" 346 is components for the front.
What would anyone think aout using the 4" ers that i already have ??? They do sound pretty nice, and i am committed to keeping it a/d/s/ (possible exception: the subs, see next question) Will I really lose THAT much sound using the 4" ers up front. Unfortunately, there is only 1 a/d/s/ dealer in my area, and they are remodeling, and dont have all of em set up to listen to and compare.

And second... Im up for opinionon the subs... I wanna go with 8's. a/d/s/ junkie or not, they just need more air than the box provides. Also... given the above amp options, how should I wire 'em (i would assume I should go with subs run parallel, but of course i could be wrong).

Overall... looking for crisp rich ***for a convertible, of course*** sound as opposed to loud and thumpy.

Damn I talk a lot...

THANKS!!!!!

4's sound pretty nice, but are generally lacking quite a bit in the midbass department. You can try and compensate for this in the sub, but in my experience, you end up getting a lot of boominess from the sub if you cross it over that high.

Obviously its all personal preferance, but in my opinion, you would end uptrying to compensate for a hole in the frequency response between the 4s and 8s.

You could concievably mount some free-air 6.5 midbasses behind the seats and overcome this...it would probably end up sounding pretty nice.

Thanks arric...

Any and all opinions are appreciated greatly. Lucid also brought up a good point about the 4's being a pain in the a$$ to install in the doors. Looks like I'll hafta take a drive to an a/d/s/ dealer who has their act together showroom wise.

Keep the opinions rollin! I'll post if I come up with anything interresting. Although it looks like I'll be parting with a few more of my favorite dollars.

cheers...
