Speaker questions
my friend gave me a pair of his old Alpine SPR-174A.
160 Watt peak
40 Watt RMS
4 ohm.
i was wondering,to install these on my s, if i needed to buy an amp?
i have a mono amp for 2 10" Pioneer Subwoofer's right now.
if i should buy a new amp. should i buy a new amp and wire both subs and speakers?(4channel??) or should i just buy a second amp for JUST speakers?
my knowledge of automotive electronics is very limited. Please help

Just depends on your budget, satisfaction level, and goals. My advice is not to buy anything unless you discover you're unhappy with something, or have a particular artistic/aesthetic/hedonistic goal. Me, I'm burdened with unnecessarily expensive taste in audio equipment; don't follow suit you can help it.
Best bang for the S2k IMHO, is components up front, 1 10" sub in the truck, with a 4 channel amp (like a JL 450/4). Bridge 2 of the channels for your sub, the other two channels for your components. If you use PAS2KNUT's amp rack in the spare tire area, you shouldn't gain much weight with that setup. This car doesn't need 2 subs, unless you are a basshead
As far as the components....they are only rated at 40WRMS. If you are running an aftermarket HU, you are probably already pushing 17-25WRMS. The jump to 40 will not be that great. You can, on the other hand, over power the speakers.....Phil would be the one to talk to about this. I think you can overpower you speakers by as much as 50% and not really hurt them.....so you could convievably go with 60WRMS on the amp. That would make a difference.
I would recommend just listening to them now, and see how you like them. If you think it is in need of an upgrade, go for it. I would not get an amp because it is "recommended," but rather when it is needed.
As far as the 2 subs, do you really need all that bass? One 10" pushing the 600WRMS they are capable of will be pretty damn impressive. Anymore, and they would more than overpower the components. I would say that if you are running a pair of 10" subs at 600WRMS each, I would get a higher rated component set, and then send something like 100-120WRMS to those via an amp.
