Hi,

You don't use the factory basket, you purchase or create a speaker bracket to mount the speaker and provide the necessary space for mounting.

Hi,

I'm not sure about water damage. I wash my car frequently however and don't think about my speakers. If you have crossovers, I would recommend that you do not place them at the very bottom interior of the door as water can collect there.

A number of speakers will not fit the OEM speaker basket due to limitations of the spacer ring and basket portions. It is best to create or purchase an aftermarket spacer. There are also marine certified speakers such as those from Polk Audio. You may also purchase a speaker baffle which will surround your speaker and can protect it from the elements.
