Speaker wire question
I changed the head unit and plugged in some aftermarket speakers. Is it necessary to change the speaker wire? What if you add an amp, do you have to change the speaker wire then? I'll change the wires if I have to, but shoot I'm trying to avoid it cuz it looks like a lot of work to put in.
I just "upgraded" from Honda's wiring to Fosgate 16 gauge speaker wire. It took me four hours, was a lot of "fun" and challenging.
I think the system sounds exactly the same, no better no worse.
My head is an Alpine CDA-7876 putting out 27 watts rms/channel , "60 watts x 4" peak.
Unless you have an amp and component speakers, I really doubt the new speaker wire will get you anything. However, you won't know until you try.

Get the round. I am in the middle of my install and just finished my doors this afternoon. Don't even try using the flatwire speaker cables. You would be fine until you tried routing the wire thru the door junction. With the flat wire when you get to the door, you might as well grab your ankles.
I just upgraded the speakers and added an amp. Used the stock wires from the head unit. Ran 2 sets of speaker wires to the back. One for the input to the amp from the factory head, the other from the amp to the head, which I tapped to the front speakers. speakers sound great, didn't want to bother trying to feed the new wire's through the door. It's a real pain in the a$$.

There is no need to upgrade the speaker wire in the car. The only thing to keep in mind is that you might want to leave the factory plug in case you ever want to put the factory ones back in. There should be no difference in sound and plus, running the new ones through the boot in the door is a pain in the $%&. If you decide to run new wires, I suggest using a large zip tie to go through the boot to keep from tearing it or poking other wires.
There should not be any problem with leaving what is in the door but you will have to run new wire to the amp of course and sometimes people opt to do new wire to the speakers also. You can cut the wires close (but not too close) to the factory radio plug and make your connections there to go back to the amp. Either way, you can leave the wire in the doors without a problem. Plus, you don
