Speakers???
Hello everyone,
Before I bought my S2k I read somewhere that it came with 4 speakers. Now that I own it I only see the 2 in the door panels.
My question is, I notice two speaker looking grills on each side of the radio in the wheel wells. There isn't any sound coming from them.
Are they there and just not working, or is this a place to mount an extra pair?
I know this is another one of those stupid newbie questions, but I am not ready yet to take a screwdriver to my car and see for myself yet.
Thanks, DP

Only 2 speakers in the doors, but ooutputs on the stock stereo for 4. Be aware, the mute button does NOT mute the rear outputs. See my webpage for instructions on removing the door panels and wiring diagrams. Also, see posts by Lucid about placing a set of speakers behind the seats to fill the cabin with a bit more sound.
No the car only comes with 2. Lucid has come up with a fix though:

macguyver,
I checked your website for the door speakers diagram. I just ordered (maybe in error) the sony ES 6.5" that has a 2.5" mounting depth. will they fit? do i have to chop the basket?

I already sent a personal reply, but for the interest of others...
The diagram I have on my website is pretty accurate as far as measurements go, but each stook is different, so they may differ by a couple of millimeters in any direction (like where the window sits). Your best bet is to measure the actual speaker and use my measurements as a guide...if the fit is within a few millimeters, go measure your own car to be on the safe side.
If the mounting depth is only 2.5", I don't see a problem with total fit, but I can't say offhand whether or not a basket slice will be necessary (haven't seen an unsliced basket in nearly a year).
