Default Stealth Escort Install question

Hey -

would be possible to hard wire the escort in the secret compartment like shown here with the v1?

http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...ht=8500+stealth

any disadvantages other than slight loss of range? i live in va, so being uber-stealth is uber-important.

possibly... read the full thread. i think it mentions in that thread that Rick eventually got away from that setup due to issues he had with it.

my CO has a cool mount that's not quite that stealthy, but good. he has pretty good sucess with it... it's very similar to Reedz setup (i think it's Reedz).

Looks like he just took it out in favor of mounting it behind an LCD for navi, no other problems. I think i'll give it a whirl.

check the mount that Jonas M used in this thread...

not quite as stealth, but something that could probably be removed fairly quickly if needed.

The tough thing about mounting an Escort like this is you can no longer see the display. No way of knowing if it is tracking multiply radars or worse the Escort can mute and then pick up another radar that you would never know about. This may not be a problem for you but consider it before the effort of putting it there.

Best bet for the Escort is to hard wire it to the windsheild so you can see the full display

can't hardwire it there to see, i plan on using the smart cord so i can see the light to know if it's going off, and turning the automute off to make sure it doesnt' mute itself

imo - with this car, you've GOT to turn off the 8500 automute. w/ the heavy road/wind noise, if you miss those first couple of chirps before the automute kicks in -- you're SOL if you don't notice the display. i can think of a couple times where the automute kicked in on distance Ka signals and i missed it... only to see the cop last second, climb all over the brakes, and look at the detector to see 1 solid Ka bar. i was lucky. i seem to recall someone else on here (Kronos maybe?) wasn't... he got a ticket this way.

automute off!

and my CO uses his detector the same way as i posted... he goes mainly off of the remote LED and listening to tones (which are much louder since they're right beside his head).

Sounds like what i plan on doing pretty much. I guess what i'm asking is for those of you who have seen the 8500 x50, does it look feasible to mount it inside the secret compartment (attached to the top like Rick's install?)?
