Stealth, space-saving stereo install...how would you do it?
Not that I'd do it but I'm wondering how much it would cost, how well it could be done in terms of space-saving, and how it would sound. Casual stereo guys and newbies could also use this as a guide of sorts...
These are the criteria:
(1) Doesn't take up a lot of space
(2) Doesn't look especially obtrusive and doesn't give a potential thief the urge to steal
(3) Doesn't break the bank
(4) Sounds good
Here's what I'd do:
Receiver: Your choice. We have that radio door anyway
Amps: Soundstream Angina and A4 each under a seat (if you can find them
)
Fronts: Koda component set in the doors with the tweeter in the stock location (02+ up) or mounted at an angle on top of the woofer but behind the grill
Rears: Nope
Sub: Okay I lied about no rears. I'd make an angled box out of MDF to put behind the seats touching the floor and using the natural angle of the back of thes seats.

The sub would have to be a tiny-box 8 I'm assuming...maybe a long port that extends underneath the seat...
One that's been especially interesting to me is the Tangband 8...models with lots of extension in real tiny ported boxes

OK, I'm now confused.... I thought you already had a kick a$$ system? What's changed?
As far as the sub, have you thought about HLAURENT's enclosure, which goes into the trunk, but uses very little space (and can be disconnected in a heartbeat if the space is needed)? His website is http://www.azcartoys.com/s2000.htm; the sub enclosures are all the way at the bottom of the page. Some people have used this enclosure with the Elemental Designs e8A.44 sub; this is the sub I am seriously contemplating. You can find the discussion at Elemental Designs e8A.44 update. FWIW, my entire plan for my setup is on the last page or so of the aforementioned thread.

Here's what I'd do:
Build a custom sub box to fit under the dash on passenger side (passenger foot well area) or get the RSX Bose sub & upgrade the stock sub & amp in it (with an old punch amp and an efficient sub).
CD changer that fits in the secret comp.
As for amps, it's really not a big deal. You can install one inside the spare, on top of fuel tank area, under the seat ...
Get whatever front speakers & HU you like.

Here's what I would do:
New HU with a way to retain the dash controls.
New speakers
Get a 5 channel amp (not two or three separate amps.)
Put the amp where the spare used to be (carry a cell phone.)
Mount rear speakers in the roll-hoops (or the lucid panels.)
Either forget about the sub, or use Wlaurent's encolsure.
That's what I would do (wait, that's what I DID do!
)
It sounds pretty impressive, even without a sub. I think thats the real space killer.
