Default Where are people putting the amplifier?

I have spent the week doing research on what sub I want to put in my S2000. I spoke to 4 local install shops and everybody seems to have the same price to build a box for the tool area: $400 + the sub. Since pricing with a sub is SO close to the JL StealthSub, I have made my decision to just get the JL and not hope the installer has done as good with wood as JL has done in fiberglass.

With the sub selected, I am looking at amps for powering the sub or maybe even a 5 channel to juice the Polk's in my doors and in the rears. With tape measure in hand I looked at going under the seats and I didn't have good luck. If I want to allow the drivers seat to remain adjustable, I have 6 3/4" depth before the amp would stick out of the front of the seat with the all the way back. The passenger seat was no better. The raised bump running parallel to the drivetrain makes this space unusable.

So... With the seats out, where next? I don't want to take anymore space then I have to.

Where is everyone hidding the amp? Anyone have pictures? What are people buying? I am looking for a good deal under $400 in a 5 channel or I will buy a Rockford Fosgate 200.1 which I have found for $160.

Thanks in advance.

I believe most people are hiding the amp inside the spare tire.

On top of the gas tank, next to the spare tire. My x-overs are inside the spare tire. It's PPI PC4400, driving a/d/s/ 346is component set, and haven't had any problems with the amp shutting down.

BTW I'd look into the possiblity of mounting a sub in passenger side foot well.

I've got two amps a crossover and capacitor in additon to a distribution block in the spare tire/ gastank area and for less than fifty dollars I glassed the tirewell for two tens. I guess if you need to keep the spare you could go behind the seats and to keep mobility of the seats you could mount to the bottom of the seat, just get your adjustments done first so it's not a PITA to get your tunes adjusted correctly.

I don't favor the behind the seat approach since that is a direct route for rain if you leave your top down and there goes a few hundred in amps. Just a thought to those with amps mounted in this manner, be careful and put your top up

Over the gas tank, I made some clips that hook onto the bottom of the Plastic well the convertable top folds into. There is a lip on the side close to the seats...works great.

Over the filler tube for me too........

My Alpine amp fits in perfect, no mounting gear needed.

I found a new Rockford 600.4 for $300 and mounted it on a board that slips into the spare tire. 2 channels for the MB Quart PSC216's and 2 bridged for the Stealthbox which can be found for $450 if one is a careful shopper....
